Happy Home

Ours’ is a happy, happy home,
From the dear old Tenth I never want to roam,
What with drill and sports and cricket,
For my “Twenty-One” I’ll stick it,
Ours’ is a happy, happy home!

This was a popular ditty in the Regiment in the late 1880s when the Hon. Julian Byng, the Viscount Byng of Vimy introduced regular sport to the barrack life when the Tenth was stationed at Hounslow, to avoid temptation from the bright lights of London.
